HMB Volunteer Fire Department Recruitment

Thank you for your interest in the Half Moon Bay Volunteer Fire Department.

The number of volunteers in the Division will reflect the current needs of the Department and will be determined by the Chief of the Volunteer Division. The Department hires new volunteers on an as-is-basis.

Volunteers are rarely recruited when bringing in new personnel into the department, instead the process is by word of mouth and by our program’s reputation bringing walk in people to the Department.

All applications on file are notified of an upcoming testing process and the timelines for hiring.

For consideration as a member of the Half Moon Bay Volunteer Fire Department the following requirements apply:

  • Completion of the Application Form

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age

  • Must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D

  • Be in good moral character and good physical condition

  • Have a legal right to live and work in the United States

  • Pass a Physical Ability Test, and pass a “Fitness for Duty” medical examination

  • Applicants must not have felony criminal records and could be rejected because of a misdemeanor record

  • Reside within the Coastside Fire Protection District

  • All volunteers should be able to respond to one of the three stations within 10 minutes travel time

  • Possess a valid Class C California Driver’s License

  • Must have his/her own reliable transportation

Few things in life can be more true than the saying “You get out of it, what you put into it” when applied to the Half Moon Bay Volunteer Program.

Thank you again for your interest.
